This month we are excited to share several new oil paintings by Carbondale based artist Larry Day.
Regular readers of the Sopris Sun will know Larry Day's contribution to the paper through his cartoons commenting on culture and politics. Larry has also had a long and celebrated career as an illustrator in the advertising industry hand drawing and painting story boards for advertisements.
Larry's oil paintings are significant departure from his illustrations and cartoons. His paintings depict local landscapes within the Roaring Fork and Crystal River Valleys. His work is loose and expressive and is reminiscent of the french impressionists with his brushstrokes and use of color. Larry works primarily from life and paints "En Plein Air" or outdoors from life. Larry will be one of the over 30 artists at this year's Redstone Plein Air Festival in June at Joy & Wylde.
Larry Day will be our gues for "An Evening with the Artist" on April 23rd at Joy and Wylde from 4-6pm. Wine and appetizers will be served. The evening event is free and open to all so join us this spring in Redstone.
